Champions in Action is a 501(c)3 organization with operations in Guatemala since 2010. Our second location in Guatemala will begin operations in August 2020. Our vision is to see a generation of at-risk youth empowered – by the Gospel, soccer and mentorship – to transform themselves, their families, their communities and their nation. We do this through year-long mentorship programs focusing on 4 investment pillars – summer soccer camps, weekly mentorship, soccer league and Mentor School.

Since we started operations Guatemala in 2010, we’ve mostly worked in and around Guatemala City’s red zones, where youth are most susceptible to the influence of drugs, crime and gang activity. We also work in some of the villages on the outskirts of the metropolitan area, where broken families, alcoholism and extreme poverty are prevalent.

The new Champions Chimaltenango location is about 1.5 hours west of Guatemala City. This site serves youth living in the El Tejar Municipality of the Sacatepequez ‘state’ and communities in the ‘state’ of Chimaltenango. Many of the youth come from indigenous Maya descent. While crime and gang violence can occur in these communities, many of the youth served by Champions Chimaltenango are more predominately faced with extreme poverty, lack of access to services, cycles of domestic and substance abuse and increased school drop out rates.

We value the communication of others and are proactive in our communication both verbal and written. We are true to our word and fulfill what we promise. We seek to honor God through excellent stewardship of the responsibilities assigned to us. (Numbers 30:2)

We are objective in determining our impact and seek to quantify our impact in programmed activities. We strive to understand our performance in order to improve it for the benefit of our target market. (1 Corinthians 11:31)

We establish our foundation upon prayer and look to our Prayer Board for guidance and support. We make bold decisions of faith but complement these decisions with hard work. (Mark 11:24)

We value our mentors as they are the body that executes our mission. We invest into our mentors lives through intentional discipleship. We pray for them, care for them and do everything in our power to assist them in their work with our youth. (2 Timothy 2:2)

We are always ethical. We are always truthful. We always do what’s excellent even if it’s costly or inconvenient for us or the organization. We always treat people with respect regardless of their status or opinion. And we are all responsible for the reporting and actions of colleagues and supervisors that are inconsistent with our values. (2 Corinthians 8:21)
