Our youth – mentor relationships are the key aspect in achieving that vision. That crucial mentor relationship gives us the the opportunity to provide support programs, in partnership with mentorship, in order to provide a holistic approach and equip each youth with the skills and support to be successful and an agent of Christ. ” title=”Holistic Support Through Mentorship”][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”3679″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” onclick=”link_image” css_animation=”appear”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][title btn_type=”1″ title=”6 Year Mentorship Program” linecolor=”#8fcae4″][vc_column_text]Champions in Action has created extensive impact over it’s first 10 years by creating an intensive one-year mentorship program. Now, Champions in Action is transitioning to a 6 year mentorship pipeline. Our vision is to see a generation of at-risk youth empowered to transform every facet of their lives. The role of a mentor is crucial in the lives of disadvantaged youth. We want to make sure our youth have a positive influence walking alongside them in their most formative years.

Youth will enter our program when they are 12 years old and ‘graduate’ at 17. Their mentor when they began the program will continue with them over the 6 years, walking through life with them. After two years in the program, and as the youth are turning 14 and 15, they’ll have the opportunity to attend our signature soccer camp. Over the 6 year program, in addition to their mentors, youth will have access to our support programs and soccer league.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][title btn_type=”1″ title=”Food Bags” linecolor=”#8fcae4″][vc_column_text]

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, 80% of our families lost their jobs or were forced to accept reduced salaries to remain employed. Many families were forced with the impossible decision of keeping the family feed or a roof over their heads. Champions in Action ensured every family in our program received food support in 2020. We are continuing the commitment for the hardest hit families who are still working to get on their feet. Most of the families in this program, make under $135/month for a family of 6 and/or eat just 2 meals a day. Food bags are filled with over 25 pounds of nutritious non-perishables, like oatmeal, pasta, nutrient fortified drinks and much more. We want to help ensure our kids’ basic needs are met so they can focus on creating a transformed future for themselves and their families and not how to find a meal each day.

For too many of our kids, working in the garbage dump, window washing or turning to illegal means, are some of the only ways for them to earn an income. We’ll be enrolling the older kids into skills based internships, hosting resume building workshops and giving career and interview advice. This month, internships for our kids start in a mechanic shop, a high-profile artisan bakery and with 1:1 training with a nationally recognized barista.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3698″ img_size=”large” onclick=”link_image” css_animation=”appear”][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3697″ img_size=”large” alignment=”right” onclick=”link_image” css_animation=”appear”][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][title btn_type=”1″ title=”School Supplies” linecolor=”#8fcae4″][vc_column_text]In January, 62% of our kids said they didn’t have the necessary school supplies to succeed at remote or hybrid learning this year. Champions in Action believes that education is key to a brighter future and that every child deserves the chance for success at school. For that reason, we continue to provide the necessary school supplies for every kid in our program. 2021 is no different and we remain committed to ensuring that no child falls behind at school because they don’t have the necessary school supplies to succeed.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][title btn_type=”1″ title=”Public Health Programming” linecolor=”#8fcae4″][vc_column_text]This spring, we’re launching an all new program targeting the health and nutritional needs of our families. Some of the programs going into effect are: nutritional education for the families, creating meal plans and recipe guides personalized to their income and family nutritional needs. Our mentors will be getting trained in basic health guidelines and how to, in turn, educate the communities on public health principles. As COVID restrictions permit, we’ll be launching health education events and activities in the communities and basic health assessments of the families. We’ll also be creating a health network so our families have access to treatment and care, regardless of their condition or income level.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][title btn_type=”1″ title=”Compassion Support” linecolor=”#8fcae4″][vc_column_text]Every year, unforeseen things happen with our mentors and families and Champions in Action wants to be poised to provide immediate support in extreme cases. In 2020, Champions in Action covered the medicine costs for a disabled youth for the year, provided doctor visits and antibiotics for 5 additional youth, paid for a surgery for a mentor, covered a life-saving emergency surgery and hospitalization for a single mom with 3 kids in our program and microloans to 3 mentors’ businesses. In 2021, we want to continue to have funds to meet the needs of our youth, mentors and their families.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][title subtitle4=”You can have an active part in creating a holistic transformation for at-risk youth.
