At the heart of our ministry is our mentorship model—powered by dedicated volunteer mentors who willingly invest their time, energy, and often personal resources to disciple and guide at-risk youth. These men and women work tirelessly to gather groups of boys and girls from their own communities, building trust and connection where it is needed most. With the support of Champions in Action, mentors receive essential tools—Bible study resources, workshops, sports equipment, and other materials—to help their teams grow both on and off the field. Every youth in our program becomes part of a soccer team, where their Mentor serves not only as a coach but as a spiritual guide in Christ.
Practices begin with Bible study, laying a foundation for faith that shapes every aspect of life. Beyond the field, mentors walk alongside their players, offering guidance, encouragement, and practical help through life’s challenges. This approach is the same in every location where we serve—Guatemala City, Chimaltenango, and Escuintla—and we are continually seeking new churches and mentors who share our passion to disciple the next generation.

Through this holistic model, we connect disadvantaged youth with life-changing relationships, meet physical and spiritual needs, and inspire each young person to discover and live out God’s purpose for their life.

OUR PROGRAMS
Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy. Psalm 82:3-4
FOOD SUPPORT
Guatemala faces high rates of malnutrition, poverty and maternal and infant mortality, especially in rural and indigenous areas. Climate disasters have also increased unemployment and extreme poverty. Public safety, migration, drug trafficking, education and poor access to clean water and basic sanitation are some of the challenges facing Guatemalans. Many live below the poverty line, making them highly vulnerable to seasonal hunger and food shortages. Champions in Action ensures every family in our program who are still working to get on their feet receives food support. We provide food bags filled with over 25 pounds of nutritious non-perishables, like oatmeal, pasta, nutrient-fortified drinks, and much more.

EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT

We provide school supplies to most needed children

With the support of partners like RURO we were able to provide backpacks to more than 400+ children

Each bag contains more than 6 notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, glue, etc.

We provide school supplies to most needed children
Part of the challenge for kids living in the Red Zones and extreme poverty is the families do not have any money to pay for basic school supplies, thus preventing them from attending. Champions in Action believes that education is one of the keys to a brighter future and that every child deserves the chance for success at school. For that reason, we continue to provide the necessary school supplies for kids in our program. We remain committed to ensuring that no child falls behind at school because they don’t have the funds to buy school supplies. We always seek opportunities to equip our children with the necessary tools to become successful in the future.
COMPASSION FUND
Every year, unforeseen events impact our children, mentors and their families, and Champions in Action is committed to providing immediate support in extreme cases. Over the years, we have covered the costs of surgeries, medicines, rehabilitation, and provided micro-loans for youth, their immediate family members, and mentors within our programs. We aim to continue having funds available to meet these critical needs. Our focus extends beyond just supporting the children; we also support their families to ensure they have the resources necessary for unforeseen emergencies. Given the social context our children live in, it is almost impossible for them to have savings, stable jobs, health insurance, or any form of financial safety net. By assisting both the children and their families, we strive to create a more secure and hopeful future for everyone involved.

We provide assistance to those who need it, based on their situation of greatest vulnerability.

We conduct research carefully to ensure that we focus on specific needs.

Each team has 10 players, which means 10 families, 10 stories, and different needs.

Our bi-weekly soccer league is more than a game—it’s a ministry. Every match begins with a Christ-centered devotional, reminding players that the Lord is at the heart of every goal, every pass, and every relationship. Through friendly competition, youth develop discipline, teamwork, and character while mentors guide them spiritually and personally. To keep the league thriving, we rely on faithful supporters who provide financial support to give youth the essentials such as snacks, water stations, devotional materials, field rentals, and volunteer help. Join us in using the universal language of soccer to share the Gospel and shape the next generation for God’s glory.
